Wild Extend GM Guerin With Hughes Contract Talks Ongoing

Bill Guerin has signed a multi-year contract extension as general manager of the Minnesota Wild, Emily Kaplan of ESPN reported on September 22, 2026; financial terms and length were not disclosed. Guerin, hired Aug. 21, 2019, received the Jim Gregory GM of the Year Award for 2025-26 with 37 of 40 first-place votes, the first Wild GM to win it, taking the title from Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill. Minnesota went 46-24-12 for 104 points and third in the Central Division, beat Dallas in round one, and lost to Colorado in five games in round two, its first playoff series win across six playoff trips in seven seasons. In December Guerin acquired Quinn Hughes from Vancouver for Zeev Buium, Marco Rossi, Liam Ohgren, and a first-round pick; Hughes posted 53 points in 48 regular-season games and 15 in 11 playoff games. Guerin also served as Team USA GM at the 2026 Winter Olympics, where the Americans won gold. The Wild extended coach John Hynes one week earlier, had signed Kirill Kaprizov to an eight-year, $136 million deal last September, and this offseason added Blake Coleman, Olli Maatta, and Maxim Shabanov and brought back Michael McCarron and Bobby Brink.
