Texans’ Ryans Considers Taking Over Play-Calling
The Houston Texans fell to 0-4 after a 34-30 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, with coach DeMeco Ryans criticizing the defense for failing to close out another game and pointing to penalties and execution errors. Ryans said the team needs to play complementary football, with each unit helping the others, and that last season’s success offers no substitute for improving now. He said there would be no immediate changes to the coaching staff or player personnel, but left open the possibility of reconsidering defensive play-calling responsibilities amid the unit’s struggles. The defense has declined sharply from its strong 2025 performance, adding pressure on coordinator Matt Burke as Houston searches for answers.
