No. 3 Miami survives Florida State upset bid in double overtime
No. 3 Miami survived a major upset scare, beating Florida State 43-35 in double overtime to remain unbeaten. Malachi Toney delivered the decisive play, catching a touchdown from Darian Mensah and throwing the two-point conversion to Cooper Barkate; he finished with 154 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Florida State forced overtime with a late 75-yard touchdown, then took a seven-point lead in the first extra period before Miami answered to extend the game. The Seminoles appeared to score on a long fourth-down pass in double overtime, but a holding penalty negated the play, and Bryce Fitzgerald intercepted Ashton Daniels’ next end-zone attempt to seal the win. The victory was Miami’s third straight over Florida State, and losses by the top two teams put the Hurricanes in position to rise to No. 1 in the AP poll.
