Pitt Beats Virginia Tech, Loses Heintschel to ACL Injury
Pitt beat Virginia Tech 35–33 in Blacksburg to improve to 5–0, with four Hokies turnovers, costly penalties and missed opportunities helping decide the game; John Love’s 36-yard field-goal attempt as time expired was ruled wide. The loss ended Virginia Tech’s unbeaten start, though the Hokies could still reach the ACC Championship Game if they win their remaining conference games and results elsewhere, particularly in the Pitt–Miami matchup, go their way. Pitt lost sophomore quarterback Mason Heintschel for the season with a torn ACL. Fifth-year backup Holden Geriner is the leading candidate to start in his place, with freshman quarterbacks also available.
