Manchester City Found Guilty of Premier League Breaches
An independent commission found Manchester City guilty of all charges concerning serious Premier League financial-rule breaches from 2009/10 to 2017/18 and of most allegations that the club failed to cooperate with the investigation. The findings include using sham commercial agreements to inflate revenue and reduce costs, misstating financial accounts, and breaching Premier League and UEFA spending limits; reports put the financial impact at more than £900 million. City denies wrongdoing, says the ruling contains material errors and is unsafe, and plans to appeal. Sanctions have not yet been determined and could be substantial. Amid calls for City’s past titles to be stripped, former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney said he would not want United to receive retrospective winners’ medals for seasons in which it finished second.
