Antonio Brown expected to accept plea deal avoiding prison in shooting case

Former NFL player Antonio Brown is expected to appear in Miami-Dade County court on Sept. 30, 2026, to accept a plea deal in a second-degree attempted murder case from a May 2025 shooting outside a boxing event in Miami's Little Haiti. Attorney Mark Eiglarsh said the deal would reduce the charge and result in probation with no prison, jail, or house arrest, avoiding a possible 20-year mandatory minimum and up to 30 years if convicted. Eiglarsh said they made Brown an offer he could not refuse; Brown believes in his innocence and Stand Your Ground defense but could not reasonably turn it down. Prosecutors alleged Brown seized a security guard's gun after a fistfight and fired two shots at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, grazing his neck. Video obtained by CBS News Miami shows the fight and Brown running toward the alleged victim with a gun. After a June 2025 warrant while Brown was in Dubai, U.S. Marshals took him into custody overseas. He returned, pleaded not guilty, and was released on bond. Nantambu has said he no longer wishes to participate; lawyer Richard L. Cooper said Nantambu forgave Brown but stressed the seriousness of what happened. Reports differ on the shooting date, with some citing May 16, 2025. The exact reduced charge is not yet public. Court action on the deal is set for Sept. 30.
