Snowplow Naming Contests Engage Students Across States
Communities and transportation agencies across the U.S. are inviting students and residents to help name snowplows, using the contests to build public engagement and highlight winter road-safety work. Nebraska is celebrating 16 student and classroom winners selected from 2,460 entries, while Oklahoma has opened public voting on names submitted by students for 35 state and turnpike-authority snowplows; winners will be announced Nov. 2. Grey County is accepting public suggestions through Oct. 22, followed by voting and a Nov. 10 announcement, and Duluth residents can submit names through Oct. 23 before finalists go to an online vote. Winning names will appear on plows, with some contests also offering prizes, school events or a chance to ride alongside a plow in a parade.
