Iran executes two men over deaths of security officers in protests

Iran carried out the dawn executions of Alireza Sepahi and Alireza Raeisi on October 5, 2026, at Dastgerd (Isfahan Central) Prison in the Alikhani Square case. State media linked the case to clashes that killed four security personnel on January 8. Mizan said the Supreme Court upheld sentences on charges including membership in an armed rebel group, waging war against God, corruption on earth, and incitement to war and killing. Sepahi married Mahshad Kashani—serving five years in Dowlatabad—in a prison ceremony the night before. Shirin Ebadi wrote, "He became a groom yesterday, and today they executed him." Raisi's final family visit on October 4 ended in forcible separation; relatives waited outside the prison. Sepahi's July 28 date was halted after health collapse and hospitalization. Mai Sato cited reports his mother was tortured in front of him and he and his cousin were beaten before family. Counts diverge: Iran International says seven executed in the case and had reported 12 death sentences; Hrana lists 15 at trial, one overturned, 14 upheld. Siavash Jamshidi Kheirabadi was executed October 3.
