Report: Teen Girls’ LGB Identification Drops Sharply
Analysis of CDC Youth Risk Behavior Survey data indicates that identification as lesbian, gay or bisexual has fallen sharply among teenagers, with the decline concentrated among girls. Among ninth-grade girls, the share identifying as lesbian or bisexual dropped from 30% in 2021 to 17% in 2025, while bisexual identification fell from 26% to 13%; boys’ rates declined more modestly. Psychologist Jean Twenge described the trend as a “free fall,” but researchers say the data do not establish why it is happening. Some conservative commentators attribute the earlier rise to social or cultural influences, but those explanations remain speculation rather than conclusions supported by the survey.
