White House Asks Guilfoyle to Resign
On Oct. 13, 2026, White House press secretary Katie Zacharia announced in her first briefing that the White House had asked U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign. "She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well," Zacharia said. A day earlier, President Trump told reporters he was "not happy" and was "looking at" potentially firing her. Guilfoyle, confirmed in September 2025, is a former Fox News host and former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr. The request followed Wall Street Journal reports. On Oct. 7 the paper said Guilfoyle asked Trump donor Eric Deters to pay a $100,000 American Express bill, citing a text: "Honey please I need you to get this done for me today." Later stories addressed her promoting a Greek construction firm linked to an undisclosed adviser and alleged boasts about Greek tycoons bankrolling travel. Deters told CNN he will sue Guilfoyle and her lawyers for defamation. He said they first claimed the texts were fake, then called him a blackmailer, then cited invoices he says she knows are untrue, and that she had him write a letter inventing a debt. "I do not owe any money from Ambassador Guilfoyle," he said, and told the Trump administration the story is not going away. It was not immediately clear whether Guilfoyle had resigned.
