Supreme Court’s 2026–27 Docket Includes Climate Case
The Supreme Court’s 2026–27 term opens amid scrutiny of its public standing and the justices’ role as political and institutional pressures intensify. The early docket includes a climate-liability dispute over whether Colorado communities can sue energy companies under state law, along with cases involving religious schools’ access to public preschool funds, gun restrictions, voting rules and education. The justices will review the Trump administration’s interpretation of immigration law allowing mandatory detention without bond hearings for some noncitizens, resolving a split among federal appeals courts; other disputes over immigration and federal agency authority may also reach the court during the term.
