Penguins, Canadiens Set for Season Opener

Penguins blew out Philly 7-0 on the road and now host Montreal at home. That kind of start should carry them through this one if the defense holds.

The Montreal Canadiens visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday for Pittsburgh’s home opener after both teams won on the road to start the season: the Penguins beat Philadelphia 7-0, and Montreal edged Toronto 3-2. Pittsburgh’s shutout was a season-opening road record, while Filip Hallander led the scoring and Sidney Crosby added an assist. The Penguins could have forwards Ben Kindel and Andrei Kuzmenko back after they practiced ahead of the game. Montreal coach Martin St. Louis and captain Nick Suzuki said the team must be ready for Pittsburgh’s top-end talent; Suzuki also reflected on learning from Crosby while playing alongside him at the Olympics. Montreal’s strong road record last season contrasts with Pittsburgh’s comparatively weaker home results. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at PPG Paints Arena and will be available on SportsNet Pittsburgh, SNP 360 and Fubo.

Montreal's road record looks solid after beating Toronto but facing Crosby at home is a different challenge. Suzuki's Olympic comment was nice but the Penguins are the tougher matchup here.
