Blackhawks’ Byram misses Buffalo return for family matter
Jeff Blashill ruled out Bowen Byram from Saturday night's game at Buffalo for a family matter, delaying the defenseman's first return since the Sabres traded him to Chicago on June 23. Byram, 25, signed a six-year, $75 million contract with the Blackhawks and became the team's top-paid defenseman after posting 21 goals and 89 points in 182 Buffalo games. He has yet to register a point in Chicago's first two losses. Jordan Greenway, also traded to Chicago after 158 Sabres games over parts of four seasons, is expected to face his former team. He said of leaving: "You're leaving a group of guys, we did a lot of good things last year. So at first, it sucks. At the same time, it's a new chapter. I play hockey here now. It's the same damn thing, just somewhere else." Greenway had two sports hernia surgeries before contributing in last season's playoffs. No contested claims found in the sourcing. The clubs meet again Nov. 12 in Chicago. After Buffalo, the Blackhawks open their home schedule hosting St. Louis on Tuesday.
