Oxford United Withdraws ‘United 93’ Range, Apologizes

Oxford United, a League One club founded in 1893 as an amateur team called Headington and promoted in 1993, launched a Campus Collection that included an American football top and a baseball jersey marked 'United 93'. The marking matched the call sign of United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in rural Pennsylvania on Sept. 11, 2001 after crew and passengers fought back, killing 44 people. The launch came around the 25th anniversary of 9/11. On Sept. 18, 2026 the club issued a statement via its Twitter/X account @OUFCOfficial. It said the collection was introduced without understanding the historical context and associations, withdrew the merchandise immediately, removed the product launch page, accepted responsibility for inadequate due diligence and pledged to review its approval processes. The club offered sincere apologies for this error and for any offence caused. No contested claims found. The record notes the review of approval processes as the next step.
