Orchestras Plan Halloween Concerts Across Communities
Symphonies and school orchestras are offering family-friendly Halloween concerts featuring costumes, familiar film and pop music, and spooky classical works. Symphony San Jose’s Oct. 24–25 “Symphonic Spooktacular” pairs pieces including the “Batman” theme and Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries” with an onstage costume contest. The Victoria Symphony’s Oct. 15 event is designed to welcome young listeners with music from “Bluey,” “Moana” and “Frozen,” plus costumed musicians, a costume contest and appearances by local mascots. In New Philadelphia, the Tuscarawas Philharmonic’s Oct. 24 matinee combines lobby trick-or-treating with works such as “Night on Bald Mountain” and a children’s musical mystery, “The Composer Is Dead.” A BHS orchestra will also open its concert season with an Oct. 19 costume-themed performance featuring selections including “Ghostbusters.”
