Pumpkin Spill Disrupts Traffic, Hits Church Fundraiser
An 18-wheeler carrying pumpkins from New Mexico to Hibben United Methodist Church struck a low-hanging tree limb while leaving the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, ripping open its trailer and spilling pumpkins onto Coleman Boulevard in Mount Pleasant. The spill closed lanes and snarled traffic for hours as crews cleared the roadway; police allowed bystanders to take one pumpkin each. The church said it lost nearly half its expected inventory for its annual fundraiser, which supports local charities, and asked people who took pumpkins to consider donating, while organizers remained optimistic the sale could continue.
