November Ballots Expected to Include Diverse Measures
Voters in several communities and states will face ballot measures on Nov. 3, including local taxes, education policy and other issues. In Lebanon City School District, voters are being asked to approve a 1% earned-income tax for 10 years, which the district estimates would raise $13.5 million annually; the school board says it would stop collecting some existing property taxes if the measure passes. Turtlecreek Township voters in the levy area will separately consider a continuing 4.5-mill property tax for fire and emergency medical services. Washington state’s ballot will include measures to repeal a tax on annual individual income above $1 million and prohibit taxes on individual income, as well as initiatives concerning parental rights in public schools and participation in girls’ school athletics. Burlington, Massachusetts, is preparing explanations of nine ballot questions, while a Colorado political discussion addresses upcoming ballot measures, including a potential progressive tax increase, and the state Republican Party’s electoral prospects.
