No. 3 Michigan State routs Northern Michigan 6-2
No. 3 Michigan State swept Northern Michigan to open the 2026-27 hockey season, winning 6-2 on Friday and 5-1 on Sunday. Sophomore Anthony Romani led the opener with two goals and an assist, then scored again Sunday, including a shorthanded goal. The Spartans pulled away in both games with late scoring runs; on Sunday, they went 2-for-3 on the power play and killed all three Northern Michigan power plays. Freshman Ethan Belchetz and senior transfer Jimmy Clark each scored their first goals for Michigan State in Sunday’s win, while goaltender Quentin Sigurdson made 29 saves in his first start for the team. Coach Adam Nightingale praised the special teams but said the Spartans still need to improve their play at even strength.
