Ehlers’ Winner Gives Hurricanes Seventh Straight Win
The Carolina Hurricanes opened their Western Canada road trip with a 3-2 comeback win over the Winnipeg Jets, extending their winning streak to seven games. Winnipeg took leads of 1-0 and 2-1 on goals by Mark Scheifele and Alex Iafallo, but Mark Jankowski and Jesperi Kotkaniemi tied the game before former Jet Nikolaj Ehlers scored the power-play winner 6:43 into the third period. Jankowski extended his goal streak to seven games, while Carolina scored twice on the power play and killed Winnipeg’s lone advantage. Pyotr Kochetkov made key late saves to preserve the victory; the Hurricanes were also without Jordan Staal and Taylor Hall, and Bradly Nadeau and Felix Unger Sörum made their season debuts.
