NHL Teams Plan Leaguewide Hockey Fights Cancer Nights
The NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer campaign features team-hosted awareness events throughout the season, with many taking place in November, and national broadcasts helping spotlight the cause. The league, NHLPA and V Foundation are continuing the campaign, which has raised more than $21.3 million over three seasons, while the V Foundation and NHL are committing $100,000 to cancer research as this season begins. Detroit’s Oct. 15 event against Philadelphia will include tributes to people affected by cancer, fundraising auctions and specialty merchandise benefiting the American Cancer Society and the Detroit Red Wings Foundation. The San Jose Sharks will host their campaign night against Nashville on Nov. 15, while the Oswego Hockey Club will hold a local fundraiser benefiting the American Cancer Society on Oct. 17.
