LA28 torch relay to visit all 50 states for first time

LA28 announced Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2026, that its Olympic torch relay will visit all 50 U.S. states for the first time. The U.S. leg starts in Atlanta in spring 2028 and ends at the July 14, 2028 Opening Ceremony in Los Angeles. Games run July 14-30, 2028; Paralympics Aug. 15-27. The flame is lit in Olympia, Greece, then handed over in Athens at the Panathenaic Stadium. Presenting partners are Coca-Cola, JPMorgan Chase, Allstate and Xfinity. Casey Wasserman said: "Every Olympic Games begin with a single flame, and transporting that flame to Los Angeles is an honour and privilege that we'll share with every corner of the country, as Americans in all 50 states carry the flame on its path to our Opening Ceremony." Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said the 1996 Games changed the city and proved it could compete on the biggest stage, and that Atlanta will be ready when the flame returns. Henrique Braun of Coca-Cola called the Torch a symbol of connection and the shared experiences that unite us. No factual disputes appear across outlets. A signing ceremony at Atlanta City Hall Atrium included Wasserman, Dickens, Braun and 1996 Games figures.
