CDC Deploys Team to Pennsylvania Amid 1,100 Measles Cases
Pennsylvania has requested federal help as it confronts its worst measles outbreak in 35 years, with more than 1,100 cases reported and six state-designated measles-associated deaths. The CDC is deploying an Epi-Aid team to provide short-term investigative and technical support, and federal officials have pledged nearly $4 million for response operations. The differing state and federal death totals reflect different reporting standards, and the state’s count has become politically contentious after Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. questioned its validity. Pennsylvania has also expanded vaccination efforts, including pop-up clinics, while health providers report a surge in demand for MMR shots.
