Inmate with weapons injures four officers during Stockton prison check
Four correctional officers were injured Wednesday night during a wellness check at the California Health Care Facility in Stockton, when 39-year-old Joadanus Olivas allegedly tried to leave his cell carrying two improvised weapons. Officers forced him back into the cell and restrained him; the officers and Olivas were treated at outside medical facilities, and the officers were released. Olivas was transferred to another prison and placed in restricted housing. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is investigating the incident as an attempted homicide and plans to refer the case to the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office for possible felony charges. Olivas is serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole for a 2010 attempted-murder conviction.
