HBO Orders Five-Episode Girls Revival
HBO ordered a five-episode revival of Lena Dunham's Girls on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, with production set to begin in 2027, a decade after the series ended in 2017. Dunham returns as Hannah with Allison Williams as Marnie, Jemima Kirke as Jessa, Zosia Mamet as Shoshanna, and Andrew Rannells as Elijah. Judd Apatow returns as executive producer. Jenni Konner is not involved. Adam Driver has not been announced as returning. In a reunion video, Dunham asked, "I'm just gonna ask: Are you in?" The three women agreed. Rannells asked, "What are we doing next summer?" then said, "I'm in — but only because you trashcans need constant supervision." Dunham also said, "Can we still call it Girls? Because we're like old as f---." Dunham said in statements and a Tuesday newsletter that the group would only return for a specific story they were burning to tell, and that around her fortieth birthday the characters started talking to her in the shower. She called coming back a gift after it felt so recent and so big, like a glacier they were sailing away from. Story details remain under wraps.
