Bestselling Author Jeffrey Archer Dies at 86
Bestselling British novelist and former Conservative politician Jeffrey Archer died suddenly and peacefully at home on October 5, 2026, aged 86, the day before publication of his final novel, *Adam & Eve*. Over a five-decade writing career, he sold more than 300 million books worldwide, including *Kane and Abel* and *The Clifton Chronicles*. Archer served as an MP and Conservative Party deputy chairman and later sat in the House of Lords; he was jailed in 2001 for perjury and perverting the course of justice and released early in 2003, then retired from the Lords in 2024. In a final interview aired days before his death, he reflected that prison had taught him a lot and said, “we all make mistakes”; he had also spoken publicly about his prostate cancer diagnosis and urged men to seek screening. He is survived by his wife, Dame Mary Archer, their two sons and five grandchildren.
