Couture Exhibitions Span Paris, Lisbon, Minneapolis
Several exhibitions are putting fashion history, design and craftsmanship on display. In Paris, Maison Michel’s 90th-anniversary show explores the art and making of hats, while the MAD marks 40 years with 40 significant silhouettes and a look behind the scenes at preserving garments. Lisbon’s MAAT presents Valentino Garavani’s designs in dialogue with sculptor Joana Vasconcelos’s work, examining the materials and ideas behind the designer’s vision of femininity. In Minneapolis, the Institute of Art will show more than 80 pieces from the Palais Galliera in the first U.S. presentation of the Paris couture collection, tracing more than a century of fashion and emphasizing clothing as art and craft.
