Community and military bands plan free fall concerts
Several communities are offering free live music this fall, from local community bands to military ensembles. The River Valley Wind and String Ensembles open their seasons Oct. 25 in Bourbonnais with a program including John Williams’ “Star Wars Saga.” In Bryan, the Brazos Valley Community Band’s family-friendly concert features a mix of styles, including a clarinet solo and a brass quintet playing Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5.” Pennsylvania events include the Liberty Band Festival’s Oct. 18 concert, where nearly 120 musicians will perform American music for the nation’s 250th anniversary, and a free Oct. 18 performance by the U.S. Navy’s contemporary ensemble Rhode Island Sound in Allentown. The 338th Army Band will also perform a free Veterans Day and America 250-themed concert in Ashland on Nov. 7.
