College Football Weekend Brings Records, Tributes, Wins
College football’s weekend featured standout performances and heartfelt tributes. Florida State honored lifelong Seminoles booster Beth Burr, who died of breast cancer in January, with a halftime jumbotron tribute, while the team routed Virginia 38-7 as Ashton Daniels set a school record with five rushing touchdowns. Former Texas high school standout Keelon Russell led No. 7 Alabama past Mississippi State with four total touchdowns, and other Texas alumni also made an impact for ranked teams. Yale quarterback Dante Reno threw for 298 yards and four touchdowns a day after his father, former Bulldogs coach Tony Reno, died, dedicating the performance to him. Before Ohio State beat Iowa, coach Ryan Day sent letters of encouragement to patients at the children’s hospital honored by Iowa’s Hawkeye Wave tradition.
