Chester County Rescinds Policy; Pennsbury Faces Complaint
The Chester County Intermediate Unit in southeastern Pennsylvania rescinded a policy that instructed staff not to disclose a student’s transgender status to parents without the student’s authorization or a legal requirement, after Alliance Defending Freedom and the Independence Law Center challenged it. ADF said the policy also tracked what parents knew about a student’s transition; the district had not provided comment in the cited report. Separately, Liberty Counsel asked the U.S. Department of Education to investigate Pennsbury School District, alleging staff used a student’s male name and pronouns and maintained related school materials for nearly three years without informing the parents. The district reportedly later agreed to use the student’s given name at graduation and correct public and electronic records, while the complaint says its policies remained unchanged.
