UN reports 443 arbitrary Taliban detentions
The U.N. mission in Afghanistan says Taliban morality police arbitrarily detained 443 people and documented 97 cases of ill-treatment from July to September, often over rules on women’s dress, beards, prayer attendance and music. The report also cites killings and detentions of former security personnel; Taliban authorities rejected the findings as false or politically motivated and said the detentions were lawful.
