ASU Assistant Coach Misses Opener Amid Player-Collapse Fallout
Arizona State assistant coach Alex Hicks will miss the hockey team’s home opener amid fallout from defenseman Matthew Mayich’s exertional heatstroke during an August workout that left him on life support; head coach Greg Powers is already on administrative leave. The university is conducting an independent review and police are investigating, while players and Mayich’s family have called for broader changes to the coaching staff and accountability.
