HBO has ordered an eight-episode, one-hour drama series based on Kevin Kwan's novels and continuing the story of the 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians. Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Ronny Chieng will return as series regulars, with Michelle Yeoh in a recurring role. Film co-writer Adele Lim is showrunner and executive producer; Jon M. Chu, Kwan, Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson are among the executive producers. The series is co-produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television. Production is set to begin in 2027; no release date was announced.
In statements shared by HBO, Lim said, "It's a CRAZY RICH family reunion!" and that eight episodes will delve into Kwan's characters and worlds, with the writers room already humming. Chu said the film changed his life eight years ago and answered the long-running sequel question: "well… bok bok b----, we're back." ABC News dated the Thursday announcement October 8, 2026; TV Central Australia published October 9, 2026. A short HBO video accompanies the order and is not a trailer of completed footage. No material fact dispute appears across the rated coverage.
Unresolved are a premiere window, additional casting, and how closely episodes will follow the later novels.
