Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has proposed livestreaming the firing-squad execution of Nidal Hasan, who was convicted of killing 13 people and wounding 32 at Fort Hood in 2009, but the administration’s plans remain uncertain. President Donald Trump has expressed support for the broadcast, while 72 retired senior military officers have called it “barbaric,” warning it could debase human dignity, damage the military’s honor and turn Hasan into a martyr. Christian leaders, including senior Catholic and Methodist figures, have also condemned the proposal, and some Trump allies have voiced reservations.
