A Maryland man accused of killing a 12-year-old girl at a youth football homecoming game had been released from prison just eight days before the shooting, according to state records.
According to Fox News, Tyree Reynolds, 23, was released from state custody on Sept. 25 after serving a five-year prison sentence. He is now facing 30 criminal counts, including murder and attempted murder, following Saturday's shooting at Leon Day Park in Baltimore.
Reynolds appeared in court Wednesday by video while sitting in a wheelchair with a cast on his leg. He waived his bond hearing.
Investigators say the violence began with an argument over a parking space near the football field. Surveillance footage allegedly shows Reynolds confronting two men in a nearby parking lot before pulling a short-barreled rifle from a backpack and opening fire.
One of the men reportedly returned fire and struck Reynolds in the ankle. Police allege Reynolds then fired in the direction of the football field, hitting four people.
Among those struck was 12-year-old Khloe Ishway, who died from her injuries.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott condemned the shooting and said Ishway should have had many years ahead of her.
“Khloe was just 12 years old,” Scott said. He added that she was killed after two adults allegedly turned a dispute over a parking spot into deadly violence.
Reynolds was also on probation when the shooting occurred because of a previous criminal case. The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services said he had completed the entire five-year prison term imposed by the court.
Reynolds had originally received a 15-year sentence, but a judge suspended all but five years. He was also ordered to serve three years of probation after his release.
His criminal history includes three arrests in 2021. He was first arrested that February on a handgun possession charge and received pretrial release, according to Fox 45 News.
Before that case was resolved, Reynolds was arrested again over a March 2021 assault. He was later arrested in connection with a July 2021 shooting that was never prosecuted.
He eventually pleaded guilty to a reduced first-degree assault charge and a firearms violation, resulting in the 15-year sentence with all but five years suspended.
The Maryland corrections agency expressed condolences to Ishway’s family and the other victims. Reynolds remains a suspect in the case, and the prosecution continues following his Wednesday court appearance.
