A New Mexico judge has dismissed the indictment against actor and director Timothy Busfield, who had been facing four counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor.
According to Fox News, District Court Judge Joseph Montano granted Busfield’s motion seeking to have the grand jury indictment thrown out, the court said on Friday.
The ruling removes the current indictment against Busfield, though it does not end the possibility of criminal proceedings related to the allegations.
“The State, however, remains free to institute new criminal proceedings against Defendant,” the filing states.
Busfield had been indicted on four counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor. The case had placed the longtime actor and director in legal jeopardy over allegations involving a child.
The dismissal came after Busfield challenged the grand jury indictment. Montano ultimately granted his request to throw out the charges.
The 67-year-old actor is known for his work in television and film, including his role as Elliot Weston on the sitcom “thirtysomething.” He has also worked extensively as a television director.
The court’s Friday ruling addresses the indictment itself and leaves open the possibility of additional criminal proceedings by the state.
