Dome Fire in Yosemite grows to 2,391 acres at 15 percent containment

The Dome Fire in Yosemite National Park has grown to about 2,391 acres and is 15% contained, up from roughly 1,977 acres and 10% containment reported earlier. Nearly 500 personnel and nine helicopters are battling the blaze, which began near Wawona Dome and is spreading through steep, rugged terrain and heavy timber that have hampered suppression efforts. Officials say there is no immediate threat to homes or infrastructure, but crews have established structure-protection points in Badger Pass, Wawona and Yosemite West as a precaution. Smoke is affecting air quality across parts of the park, with El Portal and Wawona expected to see the heaviest impacts, while Chilnualna Falls and other trails in the fire area remain closed.
