WYD Seoul Preparations Draw Delegates From 100 Countries
More than 400 Catholic delegates from over 100 countries met in Seoul from September 14 to 17 for the second international preparatory meeting for World Youth Day 2027. Convened by the Vatican’s Dicastery for the Laity, Family and Life and the Seoul organizing committee, the meeting brought together representatives of dioceses, bishops’ conferences, religious communities and Catholic movements to coordinate preparations and share lessons from previous gatherings. Participants reviewed international registration, the pilgrim app, diocesan events, the Seoul program and logistical arrangements, while visiting potential venues and celebrating Mass at Myeongdong Cathedral. Korean dioceses also presented plans for welcoming international pilgrims during the “Days in the Dioceses,” complemented by cultural exchanges including a K-Culture night. Archbishop Peter Soon-taick Chung encouraged preparation rooted in hope, citing the 2027 theme, “Take heart! I have overcome the world.”
