World Bank Mobilizes Record $112B Private Capital
On September 17, 2026 the World Bank Group said it mobilized a record $112 billion in private capital for developing economies in fiscal 2026, up from $35 billion in fiscal 2022. Combined financing and mobilization exceeded $200 billion. Mobilization rose to $37 billion in lower-middle-income countries and $50 billion in upper-middle-income countries, held near $3 billion in low-income countries, and climbed from about $9 billion to $22 billion in Africa. Guarantees topped $25 billion, beating a $20 billion-by-2030 target four years early via the 2024 Guarantee Platform. President Ajay Banga said clients and shareholders had pressed the Group three years earlier to mobilize more private capital. "We changed how we work to do that—faster, simpler, and as one World Bank Group," he said. He called the $112 billion more than triple the start and said the figure matters only if capital creates jobs. The Group cited 1.2 billion young people reaching working age against about 420 million projected jobs, noted private firms create nine of ten jobs there, and sent 55 percent of FY26 financing to infrastructure and energy, agribusiness, healthcare, tourism, and value-added manufacturing. Rated outlets on left and right reported the same core numbers.
