Man Killed in Midtown Subway Shooting
A man in his 30s was shot once in the chest around 12:20 p.m. Saturday after an argument broke out on the northbound E train platform at the 7th Avenue–53rd Street station in Midtown Manhattan. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital and pronounced dead; a passenger reportedly performed CPR before emergency crews arrived. No arrests were reported, and the NYPD released an image of a suspect shortly after the shooting. The investigation disrupted subway service, with trains skipping or bypassing the station. The Daily News reported that another man pulled a gun and shot the victim once in the chest. An Associated Press account said the dispute involved two or three men. News 12 reported the MTA had A, C, D, E and F trains skipping the station, while the New York Times said B, D and E trains run there. The Associated Press also reported citywide homicides down 20% from the same point last year, with the city on pace for its lowest killings in decades. Details of the dispute and whether the men knew each other remain unclear.
