Faber Halts Sally Rooney UK Book Sales

Publisher Faber and Sally Rooney agreed Faber will no longer supply her works in the UK in any format. Faber said current legislation prevents it from passing on UK earnings to Rooney and that selling without doing so is unconscionable; it will continue sales in other territories. Rooney said fulfilling UK contracts could now be a serious criminal offence after her August 2025 opinion piece pledging continued support for Palestine Action, proscribed in July 2025 after a June RAF Brize Norton break-in damaged two aircraft. She said she is wholly prepared to accept the consequences. The group is not banned in Ireland. Normal People has sold more than a million UK copies. Some outlets call the books banned; Faber and Rooney present a joint halt because earnings cannot be paid. Rooney had warned in a High Court witness statement for Huda Ammori's challenge that withdrawal could follow. The High Court backed Ammori in February; the Court of Appeal reversed that in June. The Supreme Court hears an appeal next month. More than 3,000 people have been arrested for holding Palestine Action signs.
