Andrew receives £302,000 after Royal Lodge exit
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor received £302,000 from the Crown Estate after surrendering his lease on Royal Lodge more than 50 years early. He paid £1.8 million toward dilapidations and repairs, for a net £1.5 million to the Crown Estate. The compensation reflected about £7.5 million in refurbishments made at the start of the tenancy. He moved to the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk in February 2026. The Crown Estate is reviewing future use of the 30-bedroom Windsor mansion before marketing it through two national agents and returns profits to the Treasury. Reporting states King Charles stripped Andrew of titles and honours in 2025 and required him to vacate amid scrutiny over ties to Jeffrey Epstein. A row had erupted over reports he charged staff to live in cottages while paying peppercorn rent for the mansion. Contested: outlets do not disagree on the payment sums or early surrender; they differ only in framing, with some calling it an award after a forced exit and others a refund linked to Epstein claims. No center-rated coverage is in the record. The property’s next use remains under Crown Estate review.
