Washington Mother Charged After Crash, Alleged Stabbings

A 35-year-old Steilacoom woman is accused of crashing her SUV on I-5 near DuPont, then attacking two girls, ages 9 and 15, with a knife after they escaped the rollover. The younger girl suffered broken bones and a stab wound; both children were reported in stable condition, and the semi-truck driver was uninjured. Three bystanders, including two Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldiers, intervened and disarmed the woman. Authorities said they suspected she was impaired; prosecutors later charged her with attempted murder, vehicular assault and felony harassment, though the reports differ on the precise charges and some details of the girls’ ages and injuries. The woman was hospitalized for evaluation, and she had not entered a plea at the time of the report.
