Flood Alerts Issued in California and South Carolina
Tropical Storm Rachel is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, hazardous surf and coastal flooding to San Diego County, where a coastal flood warning is in effect through Sunday afternoon and a tropical storm watch has been issued. High tides, large waves and onshore winds could flood low-lying areas, erode shorelines and close roads and paths; flash flooding is also possible, especially near rivers and in the mountains. The National Weather Service issued overnight flood advisories for parts of Riverside and San Bernardino counties, warning of minor flooding in low-lying areas and normally dry waterways. A coastal flood advisory was also issued for coastal Colleton County, South Carolina, where high tide could inundate shorelines and make some roads impassable; officials advised people to seek higher ground when necessary and never drive or walk through floodwaters.
