Walmart Opens Fifth Fulfillment Center, Adds 1,000 Jobs
Walmart opened a more than 900,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Stockton, California, its fifth next-generation facility, to expand faster shipping across the West Coast. The center is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs and uses automation, machine learning and an automated storage system to increase capacity and reduce the fulfillment process from 12 steps to five. Walmart says the facility complements its store and distribution network and will also support orders from third-party marketplace sellers; its broader next-generation network is intended to help the company offer next- or two-day shipping to 95% of the U.S. population.
