Walgreens signs pact for first India global capability centre in Chennai

On Friday 19 September 2026 Walgreens India Private Limited signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government at the Secretariat in the presence of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. The agreement sets up Walgreens' first Global Capability Centre in India at DLF Downtown, Taramani, Chennai. About 250 high-value jobs are expected in the first year, with further hiring planned. Industries Minister S Keerthana, Chief Secretary M Sai Kumar and Additional Chief Secretary S Vijayakumar participated. The centre focuses on technology and business services; a wire summary also lists healthcare-services and operational support. The CM's London visit yielded investment proposals worth Rs 15,300 crore expected to create over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs. Earlier the same week he signed an MoU with Ernst & Young for a GCC serving a UK telecom firm expected to generate 2,000 jobs. On Tuesday Nirmala Sitharaman said Tamil Nadu has 350 GCCs, about 10% of India's total. A CBRE study projects Chennai GCCs could reach 450-460 by 2030 with the talent pool rising to 320,000-370,000 professionals.
