Pope Francis Private Diary to Be Published Worldwide in 2026
Publishers announced on Oct. 5, 2026 that a private diary kept by Pope Francis will be published worldwide on Nov. 24, 2026 in five languages and 94 countries. The 144-page book compiles writings from Dec. 20, 1992 to Aug. 18, 2024. Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, compiled, edited and annotated the notes. Italian will come from Libreria Editrice Vaticana; Spanish, English and Portuguese from Penguin Random House; French from Albin Michel on Nov. 25. The English edition was translated from Spanish by Sister Bernadette Reis. Image said the book offers an "extraordinary glimpse" into his "hopes and fears, struggles and prayers." The Vatican called the text "of exceptional value and importance." Albin Michel president Gilles Haeri said it was "very personal." Francis, born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, was pope from March 13, 2013 until his death on April 21, 2025 at age 88. Contested: none found.
