VA Awards $112 Million for Veteran Suicide Prevention
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is distributing $112 million through its Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program to 191 community organizations nationwide, with funding available for fiscal year 2027. The grants support locally based outreach, peer support, case management and other efforts to prevent suicide among veterans and connect them with care, including those not receiving VA health services. Awards highlighted include $747,048 for Utah State University, $411,370 for a Kansas program serving four rural counties, and $500,465 for McBride Pathways for Veterans in Ohio. Alabama organizations received awards including $750,000 for a multistate peer-support program and $507,500 for services across 20 counties, while Mesa County Public Health in Colorado received $733,400 to establish a support hub serving Mesa, Delta and Montrose counties. The VA says Fox grant recipients served about 17,000 veterans, service members and family members in 2025, and connected more than 340 at-risk veterans with emergency mental health care.
