United Way organizations in southwest Michigan and Marathon County, Wisconsin, are seeking volunteers for fall leaf-raking events to help older, disabled, and other homeowners who cannot manage the work themselves. In southwest Michigan, United Way says it needs 600 more volunteers for its Nov. 12 Rake a Difference event; about 350 seniors have signed up, and nearly half remain on a waiting list. In Marathon County, volunteers will rake, bag, and haul leaves from Oct. 24 to 28, with registration due Oct. 15.
