77-year-old man critically injured after crossing centerline in Hilo crash

A 77-year-old man was critically injured and a 59-year-old woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a two-vehicle crash Friday evening on Ponahawai Street in Hilo. Police say a Toyota Tacoma driven by the man crossed the centerline and struck a Toyota Corolla traveling in the opposite direction. The street was closed for more than an hour, and investigators do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash. Police are asking witnesses to contact the department or Crime Stoppers.
