Plaza Hotel to Close for at Least Four Years

The Plaza Hotel, the 1907 Manhattan landmark, will close to hotel guests beginning in January 2027 for at least four years while its historic façade is repaired and restored; a reopening date has not been specified. Management cited the scale of the work, operational disruption and historic-preservation requirements, and has not disclosed the cost or detailed scope. The building has 282 hotel rooms and 181 condominium residences; residents are expected to remain, though the impact on them is unclear. Unionized workers will be eligible to return at the same pay when the hotel reopens, and the union will help them find interim work. The Plaza last underwent a major restoration from 2005 to 2008 and is known for its architecture and appearances in works such as “Home Alone 2.”
